I'm Cameron Chick, I'm an Independent candidate for U.S. Senate. As a paralegal, small business owner, and advocate for disability rights and civil rights law, I'm committed to bringing a unique perspective to the Senate.
My background is rooted in service and dedication. I've worked as a property manager, personal banker, and paralegal, giving me a deep understanding of the issues that matter most to our community. I'm also a proud member of several national organizations, including the National Paralegals Association and the National Coalition to End Homelessness.
Why I'm Running
As an Independent, I'm not beholden to special interests or party affiliations. I'm free to focus on what's best for New Mexico, not what's best for the career politicians. My opponent, Ben Ray Lujan, has been in politics for years, but I'm the fresh voice our state needs.
I'm running to address the real issues facing our state: affordable housing, public safety, and protecting our fundamental rights. It's time for a change, and I'm the leader who can bring it.
The Core Issues
Here are the top issues I'll be fighting for in the Senate:
Increasing Affordable Housing: We need more affordable and low-income housing options to address the crisis in our state and across the country.
Addressing Substance Abuse and Mental Health: We must do more to support individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues, rather than ignoring the problem. It's time for a comprehensive plan to create more resources and programs to keep our communities safe.
Protecting Free Speech: As a champion of the First Amendment, I'll always uphold the rights of all US citizens to express themselves freely.
The Election Stakes
This election is about more than just choosing a new Senator – it's about shaping the future of our state. Do we continue down the path of career politics, or do we choose a fresh leader who will fight for our values and our community?
The choice is clear. I'm Cameron Chick, and I'm committed to being that leader. Together, we can make a difference and build a brighter future for New Mexico.
Affordable Housing: A Foundation for Opportunity Housing is not just a roof over someone's head—it is the foundation of economic stability, strong families, healthy communities, and upward mobility. Across New Mexico and the nation, families, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and working-class Americans are being priced out of the housing market. Rising rents, limited housing inventory, increasing construction costs, and decades of inadequate housing policy have created a crisis that demands action. As an independent candidate for the United States Senate, I believe affordable housing should not be a partisan issue. It is an American issue. While politicians argue, too many families are forced to choose between paying rent, buying groceries, accessing healthcare, or keeping the lights on. I support a comprehensive approach that increases the supply of affordable and workforce housing, encourages responsible private-sector development, expands homeownership opportunities, and strengthens housing assistance programs for those who need them most. We must reduce unnecessary bureaucratic barriers that delay housing construction while ensuring communities maintain local control and responsible growth. I will advocate for: Expanding affordable and workforce housing development. Increasing housing opportunities for veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families. Supporting first-time homebuyers through practical assistance and financial education. Encouraging public-private partnerships to create more housing options. Streamlining federal regulations that unnecessarily drive up housing costs. Investing in infrastructure that supports new housing development. Addressing homelessness through housing-first solutions combined with mental health, addiction treatment, and workforce support services. Protecting property rights while promoting responsible community development. The federal government cannot solve this crisis alone, but it can be a partner in creating solutions. We need policies that bring together local governments, nonprofit organizations, housing providers, community leaders, and the private sector to increase housing availability and affordability. Every American deserves the opportunity to live in a safe, stable, and affordable home. In the Senate, I will work to advance practical, results-driven housing policies that put people before politics and help build stronger communities for future generations. Housing affordability is not just about economics—it is about dignity, opportunity, and the promise that hard-working Americans can achieve a better future.
Public Safety: Safe Communities, Strong Communities Public safety is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of government. Every American deserves to feel safe in their home, neighborhood, workplace, school, and community. Yet across our nation, many communities are facing challenges ranging from violent crime and drug trafficking to mental health crises, addiction, homelessness, and strained public safety resources. As an independent candidate for the United States Senate, I believe public safety should never be a partisan issue. Americans deserve practical solutions that protect communities, uphold constitutional rights, and promote accountability at every level of government. We must move beyond political slogans and focus on policies that produce real results. I support a balanced approach to public safety that combines strong law enforcement, crime prevention, mental health services, addiction treatment, and community partnerships. Public safety is not achieved through enforcement alone—it requires addressing the root causes of crime while ensuring law-abiding citizens are protected. I will advocate for: Supporting law enforcement agencies with the resources, training, and technology needed to keep communities safe. Strengthening efforts to combat violent crime, human trafficking, organized crime, and the flow of dangerous drugs such as fentanyl. Expanding access to mental health and addiction treatment services to address underlying factors that contribute to crime and instability. Investing in crime prevention, youth mentorship, education, and workforce development programs that create pathways to opportunity. Enhancing support services for victims of crime and their families. Improving coordination between federal, state, tribal, and local public safety agencies. Protecting constitutional rights, civil liberties, and due process while maintaining public order. Supporting first responders, including police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and dispatchers. Addressing homelessness through a combination of housing, treatment, employment, and supportive services that improve both public safety and quality of life. Public safety and individual liberty are not competing priorities—they are complementary principles that strengthen our democracy. Americans deserve communities where children can play safely, businesses can thrive, families can prosper, and individuals can live without fear of violence or crime. As your independent voice in the United States Senate, I will work to build safer communities through practical, evidence-based policies that unite people around common goals rather than divide them along partisan lines. A safer America begins with stronger communities, greater opportunity, personal responsibility, and a government committed to protecting both public safety and individual freedom.
Free Speech: Protecting the First Freedom The right to free speech is the cornerstone of a free society. Without the ability to speak openly, express opinions, challenge authority, share ideas, and engage in public debate, every other constitutional right is weakened. The First Amendment is not just a legal protection—it is a fundamental American principle that empowers citizens to hold government accountable and participate in democracy. As an independent candidate for the United States Senate, I believe free speech belongs to every American, regardless of political party, ideology, religion, background, or viewpoint. The true test of our commitment to free speech is not whether we protect speech we agree with, but whether we protect the right of others to express opinions we may disagree with. For too long, political polarization has created an environment where Americans increasingly fear being silenced, censored, intimidated, or punished for expressing their views. A healthy democracy requires open dialogue, civil debate, and the free exchange of ideas. I will advocate for: Defending and strengthening First Amendment protections for all Americans. Protecting freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, and the right to petition the government. Opposing government censorship and efforts to suppress lawful political expression. Promoting transparency and accountability when government agencies interact with social media and technology platforms. Protecting whistleblowers and individuals who expose government waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption. Supporting academic freedom and the free exchange of ideas in educational institutions. Ensuring that Americans can engage in political discourse without fear of government retaliation. Encouraging respectful dialogue and civic engagement while rejecting political violence and intimidation. Free speech carries with it the responsibility to engage respectfully and honestly, but government should not be in the business of deciding which viewpoints are acceptable and which are not. The answer to speech we disagree with is more speech, more debate, and more civic participation—not censorship. As your independent voice in the United States Senate, I will fight to preserve the constitutional freedoms that define our nation and ensure that future generations inherit the same rights that generations of Americans have defended throughout our history. A free people require free expression. When speech is protected, democracy thrives, innovation flourishes, and citizens remain empowered to shape the future of their country.
For years, Washington insiders have promised change. Yet housing costs climb. Crime rises. Bureaucracy grows. Career politicians protect the system. I’m running to disrupt it. Independent leadership means accountability — not loyalty to party bosses. New Mexico deserves better.
I'm a small business owner. I know the pressure — rising costs, regulation, and uncertainty. In the Senate, I’ll push for tax fairness, streamlined regulations, and access to capital for local entrepreneurs. When small businesses grow, New Mexico grows.
Ending Homelessness Through Accountability, Compassion, and Opportunity Homelessness is one of the most urgent challenges facing our nation. Every American deserves the dignity of a safe place to call home, access to essential services, and the opportunity to build a better future. Addressing homelessness requires practical solutions that combine compassion with accountability. My Plan to Address Homelessness Expand Affordable Housing I will support policies that increase the supply of affordable housing, reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers, and encourage public-private partnerships to create more housing opportunities for working families, seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Prioritize Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Many individuals experiencing chronic homelessness struggle with mental health challenges or substance use disorders. I support expanding access to treatment, recovery programs, crisis intervention services, and long-term behavioral health care. Support Veterans and Vulnerable Populations No veteran who served our nation should be left without a home. I will advocate for stronger veteran housing programs and targeted assistance for seniors, individuals with disabilities, youth aging out of foster care, and survivors of domestic violence. Strengthen Workforce Development Stable employment is one of the strongest pathways out of homelessness. I support job training programs, workforce development initiatives, apprenticeships, and partnerships with local businesses that help individuals gain skills and achieve long-term self-sufficiency. Improve Government Accountability Taxpayer dollars must produce measurable results. I will push for greater transparency, performance standards, and outcome-based funding to ensure homelessness programs effectively move people from the streets into stable housing and permanent employment. Promote Community-Based Solutions Local communities often understand their challenges best. I support empowering cities, counties, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and community leaders to develop innovative solutions tailored to their unique needs. A Commitment to Results Homelessness is not a partisan issue—it is a human issue. We must move beyond political talking points and focus on real solutions that restore dignity, improve public safety, strengthen communities, and provide pathways toward independence and stability. Together, we can build a future where every American has the opportunity to thrive.
Mental Health & Addiction Recovery: Restoring Hope, Strengthening Communities Mental health and addiction challenges affect millions of Americans, impacting families, workplaces, schools, and communities across our nation. For too long, these issues have been met with inadequate resources, fragmented systems, and political inaction. It is time for a comprehensive approach that prioritizes prevention, treatment, recovery, and accountability. My Plan for Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Expand Access to Mental Health Care Every American should have timely access to quality mental health services regardless of income or location. I support increasing the mental health workforce, expanding telehealth services, reducing barriers to care, and improving access in rural and underserved communities. Combat the Addiction Crisis Addiction is a public health challenge that requires evidence-based solutions. I will support expanded access to treatment programs, recovery services, medication-assisted treatment, and community-based support systems that help individuals achieve long-term recovery. Invest in Prevention and Early Intervention The best way to address mental illness and addiction is before a crisis occurs. I support increased funding for prevention programs, school-based mental health services, community outreach initiatives, and early intervention resources that identify challenges before they become life-threatening. Strengthen Crisis Response Systems Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis deserve immediate access to professional care. I support expanding crisis stabilization services, mobile crisis response teams, and coordinated emergency response systems that connect people with treatment rather than leaving them to navigate a crisis alone. Support Veterans, First Responders, and High-Risk Populations Veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and other high-stress professions face unique mental health challenges. I will advocate for specialized treatment programs, peer-support networks, and expanded access to counseling and recovery services for those who serve our communities and nation. Address Homelessness Through Treatment and Support Mental illness and addiction are often contributing factors to chronic homelessness. I support integrated programs that combine housing assistance, behavioral health services, addiction treatment, and workforce development to help individuals regain stability and independence. Increase Accountability and Transparency Taxpayer-funded programs must demonstrate measurable outcomes. I will support data-driven policies that track effectiveness, improve service delivery, and ensure resources are directed toward programs that produce real results for individuals and families. A Future Built on Recovery and Hope Mental health and addiction do not discriminate. They affect Americans of every background, age, and community. We must replace stigma with support, barriers with access, and hopelessness with opportunity. Together, we can build a nation where every person has access to the care, treatment, and support they need to live a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life.
